House Of Zwide Star Nefisa Mkhabela Shines In ‘Losing Lerato 2’

At just 22 years old, Nefisa Mkhabela is already making waves in the international film scene. The talented actress from Soweto has scored another leading role in the award-winning film ‘Losing Lerato 2,’ set to stream on Netflix from August 2nd.

Known for her role as Ona Zwide on ‘House of Zwide,’ Nefisa’s future in the TV and film industry looks brighter than ever.

Nefisa was personally approached by the film’s producer, Kagiso Modupe, who believed she would be the perfect fit for the character of Lerato.

“He said I’d be the perfect match for the Lerato character. I was so shocked and excited. This film is one of the biggest in Mzansi and it’s globally recognized. Being part of the cast members is big,” she shared.

Nefisa will be starring alongside notable actors such as Kagiso Modupe, Zolisa Xaluva, Nolo Phiri, and Mondli Makhoba.

‘Losing Lerato’ explores the emotional journey between Thami (played by Kagiso Modupe) and his daughter, Lerato. The role of Lerato was previously portrayed by Kagiso’s own daughter, Tshimillo.

Nefisa found the role relatable due to her close relationship with her own father, which she says made the shooting process much easier. “It’s about the relationship between a father and daughter. So, it’s something that I relate to because of the close relationship I have with my dad. And that made things easy for me during the shoot,” said Nefisa.

‘Losing Lerato’ has not only captivated South African audiences but has also gained international acclaim. The film was screened at the Idyllwild International Festival of Cinema in California, USA, in 2020, putting Mzansi on the global map.

Besides ‘Losing Lerato,’ Nefisa has also appeared in another Netflix film, ‘How to Ruin Love,’ which has further contributed to her growth as an actress. With her talent and drive, Nefisa Mkhabela is undoubtedly a star on the rise.
