A heart-wrenching series of events unfolded on Cape Town’s N1 freeway in the early hours of Sunday morning, where a traffic officer was tragically injured while responding to a fatal motorcycle-pedestrian collision.
Details of the Collision
According to police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg, the officer, alongside medical personnel, arrived at the scene shortly after midnight, where they found a speeding motorcycle had collided with a woman, resulting in both individuals being pronounced dead on site.

Following this, as the traffic officer was attending to the scene, he was struck by a fleeing driver in a white bakkie who did not stop to offer assistance.

The City’s mayoral committee member for safety and security, JP Smith, confirmed that the traffic officer suffered a broken leg due to the hit-and-run incident. Local authorities urge citizens to utilise designated pedestrian crossings instead of traversing national roads unsafely.
