Four Suspects Arrested After R3 Million Jewellery Store Robbery In Jeffrey’s Bay

Four men have been arrested after police tracked down suspects linked to an armed robbery at a jewellery store in Jeffrey’s Bay, where valuables worth more than R3 million were stolen.

The robbery unfolded on Sunday morning when armed suspects targeted the business before fleeing with a large quantity of jewellery. Police intercepted the alleged getaway vehicle just hours later following a coordinated operation.

The suspects, aged between 24 and 36, are expected to face charges of possession of suspected stolen property and unlawful possession of ammunition.

Jeffrey’s Bay Jewellery Robbery Ends With Swift Police Arrests

The Jeffrey’s Bay jewellery robbery took place at about 10.15am while staff members were assisting customers inside the store.

According to Eastern Cape police spokesperson Captain Marius McCarthy, two armed men entered the premises first, threatened everyone inside with firearms and instructed customers and employees to lie on the floor.

“According to police reports on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at approximately 10.15 am, employees and witnesses were inside the business establishment assisting customers when two armed suspects entered. The perpetrators drew firearms, threatened the occupants, and ordered everyone to lie on the floor,” McCarthy said.

Moments later, additional suspects entered the store and smashed display cabinets before grabbing jewellery estimated to be worth more than R3 million.

“The suspects looted jewellery with an estimated value of R3 million. No shots were fired, and no injuries were reported. Following the immediate activation of first responders and the review of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, the suspects’ vehicle descriptions were swiftly circulated via local security networks and the NAVIC tracking system,” McCarthy said.

Flying Squad Tracks Down Suspects On N2 Highway

The investigation quickly gained momentum after police reviewed CCTV footage and shared details of the suspects' vehicle through local security networks and the NAVIC tracking system.

Members of the Gqeberha Flying Squad located a vehicle matching the circulated description travelling at high speed towards Gqeberha along the N2.

“Flying Squad members intercepted the vehicle along the N2 Highway. A tactical search of the vehicle resulted in the arrest of four suspects,” McCarthy said.

Police recovered a large quantity of jewellery that still had the store's price tags attached. Officers also seized one round of AK-47 ammunition and clothing allegedly matching the outfits worn during the robbery.

“Police confiscated a large quantity of jewellery still bearing tags belonging to the jewellery store, one round of AK-47 ammunition, and clothing matching the exact description worn by the suspects during the robbery,” McCarthy said.

Police Praise Coordinated Operation After R3 Million Recovery

Sarah Baartman District Commissioner Major General Thandiswa Kupiso commended the coordinated response that led to the arrests and the recovery of the stolen property.

“This outstanding success underscores the undeniable power of collaborative policing and the strategic deployment of our specialised units,” Kupiso said.

She said cooperation between police, security partners and specialised units, combined with technology and real-time intelligence sharing, played a key role in bringing the suspects to book.

“We sent a clear warning to criminal syndicates that our highways and communities are heavily policed. The recovery of this multi-million rand property and the removal of illegal ammunition from our streets is a significant victory in our ongoing war against aggravated robberies," Kupiso said.
