Four Suspects Arraigned in R2 Billion Groblersdal Drug Bust Case

The high-profile case against four individuals linked to a staggering R2 billion drug bust in Groblersdal, Limpopo, has been postponed to August 1.

The suspects were apprehended over the weekend following a raid on a local farm, which uncovered substantial quantities of illegal drugs and chemicals used in drug manufacturing.

The suspects in this case include two Mexican nationals, Gonzales Jorge (51) and Gutierrez Lopes (43), along with 67-year-old farmer Frederick Botha and 35-year-old Simphiwe Khumalo.

They appeared before the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court on Monday. Charges against them include the manufacturing, dealing, and possession of illicit drugs.

Hawks spokesperson Katlego Mogale revealed that the Limpopo branch of the Hawks received intelligence regarding suspicious activities occurring on the farm. A multi-disciplinary team was then deployed to operationalize the information and conduct the raid.

The operation led to the discovery of four structures on the property, which contained large quantities of chemicals, including acetone, and crystal meth with an estimated street value of R2 billion.
