Four Suspected Criminals On Way To Carry Out Hit Killed By Police

On Wednesday afternoon, a dramatic shootout occurred on Moses Kotane Road in Sydenham, Durban resulting in the deaths of four suspects allegedly involved in cash-in-transit (CIT) heists and murders.

The suspects were reportedly on their way to carry out a hit on a man and his two bodyguards when they were intercepted by law enforcement officers.

The KwaZulu-Natal police, led by spokesperson Robert Netshiunda, reported that a multidisciplinary team had operationalized intelligence regarding the suspects.

The team comprised the Directorate for Priority Crimes, Provincial Tracking Team, Anti-Gang Unit, Tactical Response Team, and Pietermaritzburg K9 Unit. They had been tracking the suspects, who were wanted for various violent crimes, including CIT robberies and murders.

Upon intercepting the suspects on Moses Kotane Road, the police instructed the vehicle to stop. However, the driver defied the instructions, and the occupants opened fire on the officers as they sped off.

This led to a shootout, resulting in the suspects’ vehicle crashing against a wall at the corner of Moses Kotane and Barns Road. All four suspects sustained fatal gunshot wounds inside the vehicle.

A fifth suspect attempted to flee from the moving vehicle but was shot and injured. He was found in possession of a firearm and subsequently arrested.

Netshiunda mentioned that the total number of firearms found inside the vehicle would be confirmed once the search was complete, noting that one of the firearms was a police-issued pistol.

The police have confirmed that the suspects were en route to execute a hit on a man and his two bodyguards.

Additionally, these individuals were wanted for multiple murders, particularly those linked to the construction industry. This successful operation highlights the effectiveness of coordinated law enforcement efforts in combating violent crime.
