Local musician Vusi Nova was overcome with emotion as he spoke about his dear friend, Zahara, at her funeral.
Held at the East London International Convention Centre, the funeral was attended by hundreds of mourners. Nova took to the podium, visibly distraught, and took a moment to compose himself before delivering a heartfelt tribute to the late singer.
Describing Zahara as special and extraordinary, Nova expressed how she was the one person who truly understood him.
He tearfully admitted that she took his secrets to the grave, and he promised to do the same for her.
Nova shared a story of visiting Zahara in the hospital before her passing, recounting how he initially feared the worst when he discovered she had been moved to a private room without all the medical equipment.

Expressing his frustration, Nova scolded Zahara for scaring him and vowed to always be there for her.
As a final tribute, Nova performed one of Zahara’s most beloved hymns, ‘Lizalis’idinga Lakho,’ which she had previously recorded with the Soweto Gospel Choir.
The loss of Zahara is deeply felt by her loved ones and the music community. Her talent and unique voice touched the hearts of many, and her memory will live on through her music.
