Update On AKA Murder Case: Police Dismiss Reports Of Arrests In eSwatini

However, Mkhwanazi did confirm that two murder suspects were indeed arrested and are awaiting extradition back to South Africa.

The KwaZulu-Natal police have recently addressed the rumours circulating about the arrest of two suspects in eSwatini in connection with the murder of renowned rapper Kiernan Forbes, popularly known as AKA.

AKA, along with his friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, was tragically shot outside a restaurant in Durban on February 10, 2023. However, the police commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, has dismissed these reports.

Mkhwanazi emphasised that any developments in the murder case would first be communicated to the families affected and the media. He explained that the investigation is currently at a sensitive stage, and the police are cautious about sharing information that could compromise the ongoing process.

The AKA and Tibs murder case is complex, with a significant amount of evidential information that needs to be thoroughly analysed and processed.

The police commissioner clarified that the investigation is being led by the prosecution. Once all loose ends are tied and loopholes are covered, an official announcement will be made to update the public on the progress of the investigation.

However, Mkhwanazi did confirm that two murder suspects were indeed arrested and are awaiting extradition back to South Africa. These suspects are allegedly linked to a separate attempted murder and murder case that occurred in Berea, Johannesburg on March 6, 2023.

In that incident, a passenger was fatally shot, while the driver survived and managed to reach the nearest petrol station.

It is worth noting that AKA’s visit to Durban marked his first trip to the city since the tragic death of his fiancé, Anele Tembe. Tembe’s passing in April 2021 was initially believed to be a suicide, as she fell from the tenth floor of a Cape Town hotel.

However, her family, through her father Moses, has since disputed this, stating that she was not suicidal and that her death was not due to suicide.

As the investigation into AKA’s murder continues, the authorities are committed to ensuring a thorough and fair process. Updates will be provided as significant developments arise, keeping the public informed and involved.
