Unlike Archie! Musa Mseleku Turns Down Honorary Degrees From Bogus Institution

Mseleku took the initiative to verify the legitimacy of the institutions before turning down their offers. He called Dr Gugu Mazibuka, a lecturer at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, to discuss the matter.

Musa Mseleku, star of the reality TV show “Uthando Nes’thembu” and a well-known polygamist, recently revealed that he had been approached by unregistered institutions offering him honourary degrees.

In an Instagram post on April 24th, Mseleku shared that he had “turned down” these offers, expressing his understanding of why others might accept them.

This revelation comes in the wake of Skeem Saam actors Sello Maake Kancube and Elizabeth Serunye being awarded honourary doctorates from Trinity International Bible University.

Mseleku expressed his understanding of why Maake Kancube accepted the honorary doctorate but also questioned why it took a bogus institution to recognise his work.

He criticised the people who are now crying out loud, stating that this is an indictment on them. While Mseleku did not disclose the names of the organizations that approached him, he revealed what made him sceptical of their offers.

According to Mseleku, these institutions capitalized on his popularity as an individual and used it as a marketing strategy for themselves. He noted that many of these institutions that bestow titles like professors and doctors based on religious beliefs can be found in various churches.

However, Mseleku refused the offers because he did not feel too ambitious for those recognitions and because he believed he had not yet done enough to deserve such recognition.

Mseleku took the initiative to verify the legitimacy of the institutions before turning down their offers. He called Dr Gugu Mazibuka, a lecturer at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, to discuss the matter.

After their conversation, both Mseleku and Dr Mazibuka concluded that accepting the offers was not the right decision.

It is worth noting that Trinity International Bible University, which conferred the honorary doctorate upon Sello Maake Kancube, is not registered.

The Minister of Higher Education, Blade Nzimande, revealed that the university has no authority to offer any qualifications. This revelation comes after Maake Kancube celebrated his honorary doctorate on social media, proudly announcing his new title.

In addition to Maake Kancube, other notable individuals, such as Elizabeth Serunye and singer Winnie Mashaba, were also conferred honorary degrees by Trinity International Bible University in November 2019.

Mseleku’s refusal to accept these bogus college offers highlights the importance of verifying the legitimacy of institutions and recognizing the value of one’s work based on genuine contributions to society. While some may be tempted by the allure of honorary titles, it is crucial to ensure that they are bestowed by reputable and registered institutions.
