South African AfroPop Star Zahara Has Died

Zahara, known for her incredible talent, made a lasting impact on South African music. Her first studio album, "Loliwe," released in 2011, achieved double platinum status.

It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of the multi-award-winning AfroPop star, Bulelwa “Zahara” Mkututana.

The news of her untimely death was confirmed by Arts and Culture Minister Zizi Kodwa, who expressed his deepest condolences to her family and the South African music industry.

Zahara, known for her incredible talent, made a lasting impact on South African music. Her first studio album, “Loliwe,” released in 2011, achieved double platinum status. This was followed by her second album, “Phendula,” which also rocked the charts, producing three top singles – “Phendula,” “Impilo,” and “Stay.”

In 2015, Zahara’s album “Country Girl” went triple platinum, and her fifth album, “Nqaba Yam,” reached number one on iTunes. Throughout her career, she received numerous accolades, including 17 SAMusic awards, three Metro FM awards, and a Nigeria Entertainment award.

Just two weeks ago, Zahara’s family shared a statement on her social media accounts, addressing media reports about her health.

The 35-year-old singer had been admitted to the hospital for physical pains, and despite the efforts of doctors, she tragically passed away on Monday at a private hospital. The cause of her death has not yet been disclosed.

The news of Zahara’s passing has left the South African music community and fans in shock and sadness.
