Sonia Mbele, the celebrated media personality, has once again failed to appear in court for her ongoing tax evasion case. This is the second time she has pulled a no-show at the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court, citing medical reasons.
Mbele, along with two other directors, Yolisa Gqunta and Rebone Sesing, of The Real Housewives of South Africa (Pty) Ltd, are facing 42 tax evasion charges spanning from 2019 to 2022. The charges allege that the trio failed to submit Pay-As-Earn (PAYE) and tax returns for The Real Housewives of Durban.

Despite her absence, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson, Phindi Mjonondwane, has stated that the court has given Mbele one last opportunity to appear before the law on 20th October. The court has marked the postponement as final, following Mbele’s submission of a medical certificate for the second time, claiming ill health.
Mbele’s spokesperson, Thato Malindi, has revealed that her medical issues stem from a work burnout in May, which has since become chronic. However, this explanation has been met with scepticism, as this is the second time she has used medical reasons to avoid court proceedings.
