Skeem Saam Actor Sebasa Mogale And Wife Arrested For Bitcoin Scam

As a well-known radio presenter, people trusted Sebasa and willingly deposited money into an account belonging to the altcoin trader, purchasing mining packages ranging from R6,500 to R253,000.

Sebasa Mogale, known for his role in the popular TV show Skeem Saam, and his wife Dorah, found themselves in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

The couple is facing charges of fraud related to a Bitcoin scam that Sebasa allegedly used to deceive people through the Thobela FM platform, where he was once a presenter.

The Limpopo police have been investigating the case and have uncovered some disturbing details. It appears that Sebasa advertised a scam called “Mining City” on the radio in 2020, enticing unsuspecting listeners with the promise of high rewards if they invested.

As a well-known radio presenter, people trusted Sebasa and willingly deposited money into an account belonging to the altcoin trader, purchasing mining packages ranging from R6,500 to R253,000.

However, when the victims attempted to withdraw their money, they discovered that the provided details were blocked.

Contacting Sebasa, they were informed that the mining city scam had collapsed due to the inflation rate, resulting in the loss of their investments. To make matters worse, when the victims tried to visit the office, they found it closed, and Sebasa’s phone was on voicemail.

The extent of the scam is still being determined, but ten case dockets have already been registered against the suspects at the Polokwane and Mokopane SAPS. It is expected that more victims will come forward and additional cases will be opened in the coming days.

Sebasa Mogale and Dorah were released on bail of R10,000 each and are scheduled to appear in court again on 20 May. As the investigation continues, the full extent of their involvement in the Bitcoin scam will be revealed.
