Doctors at the Netcare Pholoso Hospital in Limpopo are working tirelessly to determine the extent of musician Shebeshxt’s injuries. According to the music artist’s mother, Mpho Chauke, she provided an update to Sunday World about her son’s condition.
The accident, which occurred on the R37 road near Smelters Mine on Saturday, June 8, has left Shebeshxt with a broken leg, an abdominal fracture, and head injuries.

Shebeshxt—whose real name is Lehlogonolo Chauke—was driving his Volkswagen Polo when it collided with a truck and overturned. Mpho mentioned, “The doctors are still trying to figure out the extent of the injuries, but he went to the theatre this morning. So we should know after that.”
Adding to the tragedy, Shebeshxt’s nine-year-old daughter, Onthatile Chuene, died in the crash. The Twerka hitmaker was travelling from Polokwane to Lebowakgomo with his daughter and his long-time partner, Kholofelo Chuene.
They were en route to drop off Kholofelo and Onthatile before Shebeshxt was to perform at an ANC Siyanqoba Rally celebration concert in Lebowakgomo scheduled for Sunday, June 9.
Videos circulated on social media showing the aftermath, including a clip of a child’s body lying covered next to the artist’s damaged vehicle. Another video shows Shebeshxt lying on the ground as paramedics tend to his injuries, with his head and right foot bandaged.
In light of this devastating event, the Limpopo Artists Movement (LAM) issued a statement on Monday, offering condolences to Shebeshxt and his family.
“We cannot imagine the pain and grief they must be experiencing, but we want them to know that they are not alone,” the statement reads.
“The entire artistic community stands in solidarity with them, offering comfort and support.”
LAM highlighted Shebeshxt’s dedication to his craft and his passion for inspiring others through his work. They hope the collective support will provide some solace during this trying period.
Representatives from LAM visited both Shebeshxt’s family and the musician at the hospital, urging other artists and fans to send messages of comfort to the Chauke family.
“Let us rally around them and offer a shoulder to lean on in their time of need. May Shebe’s daughter rest in peace, and may the family find strength in the love and support that surround them,” LAM encouraged.
