When it comes to sports, loyalty is a virtue that many South Africans hold dear. So when popular musician Prince Kaybee openly expressed his support for the All Blacks on Twitter, it didn’t take long for the backlash to ensue.
The house DJ, known for his controversial statements, found himself in hot water after backing New Zealand over the Springboks. As soon as the Springboks emerged victorious, Twitter users wasted no time in making fun of Prince Kaybee’s misguided allegiance.

Netizens took to social media to photoshop pictures of the musician, ridiculing him for his support of the All Blacks. Some even went as far as editing photos to make it appear as though he was on the field with the New Zealand team.
But the mockery didn’t stop there. Twitter users seized the opportunity to take jabs at Prince Kaybee’s music career as well. @SibaAtSea wrote: “Cancel him.” @SikelelaNjoli speculated: “You trying to be relevant since your music is a thing of the past in South Ahh.”
While the backlash was harsh, there were some who defended Prince Kaybee. @Melodious_Miss admitted: “Honestly Nami I was feeling heartbroken for them, my favorite rugby team of all time. But I would never choose them over our country. But I would choose them over any other country.”
It’s clear that loyalty to one’s country and its sports teams is a deeply ingrained value for many South Africans. The Springboks’ historic win in the World Cup only served to reinforce this sentiment. The team’s triumph was a moment of national pride, and anyone seen to be supporting the opposing team faced the wrath of their fellow citizens.

I’ve never seen Prince Kaybee trend because of his music, that’s why he’s trying so hard to do things that will make him trend.

Supporting one’s country is not just about the game itself; it’s about standing together as a nation, celebrating victories, and supporting each other in defeat.
So let this be a lesson to all: when it comes to supporting your country’s sports teams, loyalty should always come first. It’s a lesson that Prince Kaybee learned the hard way, but one that serves as a reminder to us all.
