Police Reveal Mfundo Gcaba Won’t Be Arrested For Paying R800k Into AKA’s Murder Accused

While the investigation is ongoing, the media has also questioned the absence of Gcaba in court alongside the other suspects.

The police investigating the murder of South African rapper Kiernan Forbes, popularly known as AKA, have decided not to arrest one of the most infamous businessmen in KwaZulu-Natal, Mfundo Gcaba.

Sunday World reports that despite evidence linking Gcaba to the crime, the police claim there is insufficient evidence to bring him in for questioning or arrest him.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that Mfundo Gcaba had deposited a substantial amount of money, R800,000, into the account of Muziwethemba Gwabeni, allegedly as payment for the hit on AKA.

However, Gwabeni insists that the transfer was for “purely business purposes” and bore a reference to “consult.” This raised suspicions about Gcaba’s involvement in the murder.

Despite Gwabeni’s claims, he was arrested along with six others in connection with the rapper’s murder. It is alleged that Gwabeni assembled a team of six individuals and paid them each over R133,000 for their participation in the hit.

However, Gwabeni recently questioned why Gcaba had not been arrested if he had indeed paid the money for the hit.

When questioned about Gcaba’s absence from police custody, an anonymous police official shed some light on the situation. According to the official, the money and the phone calls between Gcaba and Gwabeni were not sufficient evidence to warrant an arrest or even bring Gcaba in for questioning.

The police are focused on establishing a motive and uncovering the instructions given to Gwabeni. The official further hinted at the involvement of more powerful individuals in the case, suggesting a deeper conspiracy.

While the investigation is ongoing, the media has also questioned the absence of Gcaba in court alongside the other suspects. Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, the spokesperson for the Kwazulu-Natal National Prosecuting Authority, stated that the matter is still under investigation and declined to comment further.
