Phat Joe Sets Record Straight On Eviction Reports

Phat Joe, however, denies that any eviction took place. Addressing the reports, he alleged that things took a turn for the worse when his landlord tried to extort money from him.

Radio and TV personality Phat Joe recently found himself in the midst of eviction reports, but he is now shedding some light on the situation.

During a sit-down interview on the podcast “Podcast and Chill” with MacG and Sol Phenduka, Phat Joe, whose real name is Majota Khambule, explained that no eviction actually took place.

According to various reports, Phat Joe and his family were allegedly evicted from their luxury Sea Point apartment in Cape Town.

The apartment reportedly cost more than R40,000 a month to rent, and it was claimed that Phat Joe had failed to keep up with his rent, accumulating a debt of over R600,000 since his last payment in November 2022.

As a result, an eviction order was issued by the Western Cape High Court, stating that Phat Joe and his family should vacate the property by May 31. If they failed to do so, the sheriff was authorized to evict them on June 1.

Phat Joe, however, denies that any eviction took place. Addressing the reports, he alleged that things took a turn for the worse when his landlord tried to extort money from him.

According to Phat Joe, the dispute began over a year ago when his landlord allegedly demanded R300,000 from him.

Refusing to comply, Phat Joe claims that the situation escalated, with gunmen breaking into his house, multiple court cases, and even the publication of pictures of his daughter online.

Setting the record straight, Phat Joe clarified that while a sheriff was indeed sent to his home, there was no eviction.

He explained that in March, both parties reached a settlement agreement, which was made an order of the court. The settlement stated that Phat Joe and his family would vacate the apartment by the end of May or by June 1. Therefore, the claim that they were kicked out on the streets is false.

Phat Joe emphasised that he is still residing in his luxury penthouse in Sea Point and that the eviction reports are unfounded.

Phat Joe also took the opportunity to discuss his approach to investing in property. He revealed that he has not yet purchased a home because he believes in investing in businesses.

He cited the example of owning a studio, the Mxit Theatre in Johannesburg, which was unfortunately taken from him, teaching him a valuable business lesson. Instead of focusing on buying property, Phat Joe prefers to invest in businesses and use the free cash flow to acquire his assets.

Despite the challenges he has faced, Phat Joe remains determined and resilient in his fight against the allegations and extortion attempts. As a well-known media personality, he continues to navigate the ups and downs of his career with wit and perseverance.
