In a shocking turn of events, the father of popular Skeem Saam actress Amanda Manku, who portrays the character Lizzy Thobakgale, has been implicated in a double murder case.
Captain William Manku, along with his girlfriend Sergeant Nonhlanhla Ngubo and a hitman named David Khoza, were arrested last week for their alleged involvement in the murders that took place in May 2021.
The suspects are facing a multitude of charges, including two counts of murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, robbery with aggravated circumstances, and defeating the course of justice.
The case was brought before the Lebowakgomo Magistrates Court, where it was decided that the accused would remain in custody until the next court hearing on January 23, 2024.
The murders, which took place almost three years ago, saw the tragic deaths of Manku’s 70-year-old grandmother and 45-year-old mother.
According to police reports, the victims were shot while they were collecting water from a community tap. Manku’s uncle, who was present at the time, was also shot but survived his injuries.
During the arrest, the police seized firearms believed to be connected to the crime, as well as the car used in the incident and the cellphone belonging to Manku’s mother. These pieces of evidence will undergo ballistic tests as part of the investigation.
In a statement released by Manku’s family, they confirmed the arrest of the three suspects and expressed their gratitude for the support they have received during this difficult time. They are hopeful that the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the judicial system will ensure that justice is served and that the case is brought to a close.
This shocking case has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry and has left fans of Skeem Saam in disbelief. As the investigation unfolds, the public awaits further updates on the proceedings and hopes for a resolution that brings closure to this tragic chapter.
