The court heard confessions from two of the accused, confirming that Khumalo had allegedly ordered the hit on Meyiwa.
The tragic incident occurred at Khumalo’s residence in Vosloorus in October 2014. Brigadier Bongani Gininda’s statement suggested that Khumalo’s decision to murder her lover was not impulsive but rather a calculated move.
According to Brigadier Gininda, communication records between Khumalo and her sister in 2013 revealed her desire to “get rid of the deceased.”
“Communication records between her and her sister shows that as early as 2013, she wanted to get rid of the deceased as she puts it, it is abundantly clear that she hated him and wanted to get rid of him. She further states that she regrets not succeeding to get rid of him before.”
It is evident that Khumalo harboured strong negative feelings towards Meyiwa and had long contemplated his demise. She expressed remorse for not succeeding in her alleged plan earlier.
Zandi Khumalo, the same sister who testified last year, played a significant role in the trial. Cell phone records indicate that Kelly Khumalo had been in communication with accuseds three and five.
However, further analysis of Khumalo’s cell phone memory album uncovered a shocking discovery. A photo of a transparent bag containing cash notes was found in the exact location as accused number three.
Additionally, it was revealed that Khumalo had four undisclosed cell phone numbers, which were discovered during the investigation. This revelation raises questions about her level of cooperation with the police.
The Senzo Meyiwa murder trial continues to captivate the nation, shedding light on the events leading to the untimely death of the Bafana Bafana captain. As the trial progresses, more details are expected to emerge, providing a clearer picture of the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
