In a heartfelt letter, Drip CEO Lekau Sehoana has thrown his support behind rapper, actress, and sangoma Boity Thulo.
The star recently faced criticism over the fall of her perfume line and other business ventures. But Lekau, ever the optimist, penned a motivational note to Boity, reminding her that failure is just a pitstop on the entrepreneurial journey.

Lekau, who knows firsthand the rollercoaster ride of entrepreneurship, emphasised that a failed strategy, business, or product doesn’t make someone a failure as a human being. “We all experience setbacks,” he said. “When we develop products, we expect certain percentages of success or failure. It’s part of the game.”
Drawing from his own experiences, Lekau shared how his brand, Drip Footwear, faced its own challenges. “In 2019, we launched @dripsportif. Two years later, we had 25 stores. But not all of them thrived. Some closed, while others moved to better trading positions.
“We even created The DRIP Group, a house of brands that includes @DomainJeans and Kiddies Republic. Unfortunately, we had to liquidate Kiddies for similar reasons – it didn’t work out.”
Lekau reminded Boity that entrepreneurship is a dynamic process. “Failure is at the heart of movement,” he said.
Remember, 9 out of 10 startups fail and 38% of startups fail because they run out of cash. 35% of startups fail because there is no market need for them. By year 5, 50% of all startups will have failed. These stats are not there to make us sleep well at Night, but they’re there to make us solution-driven.
“And keep us on our Toes. Boity, you’re doing so well. I applaud you for having started and being positive. Please never give up and keep going. This is exactly what Entrepreneurship is about…”
