Kabza De Small Cancels Event After Tragic Shooting Incident

While music has the power to bring people together and create moments of joy, it is disheartening when the very individuals responsible for spreading that joy become targets of violence.

South African DJ and Amapiano pioneer, Kabelo Motha, better known as Kabza De Small, has reportedly cancelled his highly anticipated gig in Soshanguve.

The decision comes in the wake of the shocking and tragic shooting of DJ and radio personality Peter “Mashata” Mabuse.

The incident occurred when a hail of gunfire was unleashed on Mashata’s car, resulting in his untimely death. The news of the cancellation was shared by local publication Zimoja, who also revealed that Kabza’s management had made attempts to persuade him to go ahead with the event but were unsuccessful.

It is no surprise that Kabza De Small would fear for his safety, considering the alarming number of artists who have been victims of violent crimes. Mashata is just the latest addition to a growing list that includes DJ Somebody, who was also shot and killed in Soshanguve, as well as rapper AKA.

Speaking to Zimoja, Kabza’s management expressed their concern for his well-being and the need to prioritize his safety. They stated, “After long conversations with our client, Kabelo Motha, we have reached the conclusion to cancel the event happening this weekend due to the sudden events that occurred this past weekend, and for the safety of our client.”

Despite the event organizers’ efforts to assure Kabza De Small of his safety by arranging highly trained VIP security, the DJ remained firm in his decision to cancel the gig. The organizers expressed their disappointment and offered their sincere apologies to all patrons and supporters of Kabza for any inconvenience caused.

The tragic incident involving Mashata serves as a stark reminder of the delicate balance artists must navigate between their artistic expression and personal safety.

While music has the power to bring people together and create moments of joy, it is disheartening when the very individuals responsible for spreading that joy become targets of violence.

Artists like Kabza De Small are not only talented musicians but also human beings with fears and concerns for their well-being. It is crucial for event organizers, venues, and the wider music industry to prioritize the safety of artists and take proactive measures to mitigate risks.

While it is understandable that fans may be disappointed by the cancellation of the gig, it is essential to empathise with Kabza De Small’s decision. The trauma and fear caused by such a tragic incident cannot be easily brushed aside.

As fans, we must support artists in their decisions to prioritize their safety and well-being. By doing so, we contribute to creating a safer environment for artists to continue sharing their incredible talents with the world.
