Social media streets have been messy ever since the Ayepyep Lifestyle, which was co-owned by the late DJ Sumbody and his partner, took to social media to request police protection as the establishment and its staff are being threatened by a dangerous gang boss.
According to reports reaching SurgeZirc SA, the gang boss in question is Ralph Stanfield – who is allegedly the leader of the 28s gang in Cape Town.

In a statement released on Wednesday, 9 August, the entertainment establishment pleaded with law enforcement to assist them after they were forced to shut their doors due to threats by Ralph Stanfield.
In addition to allegedly threatening Ayepyep Lifestyle’s management and personnel, Ralph Stanfield is also alleged to be demanding the illegal entire takeover of the business.

This isn’t the first time that a story like this came out public. A few months ago Setsetse who co-owned the place with DJ Sumbody relocated to Dubai. That was just five months after his business partner was murdered in cold blood.
Recall that DJ Sumbody – real name Oupa John Sefoka – was gunned down along with one of his bodyguards in a hail of bullets in Woodmead, Johannesburg, while on their way to a gig on 20 November last year till date that the case is still under investigation.
Speaking back then Setsetse said: “I will not come to SA for this because I know I will be killed immediately. The underworld has serious contacts in most authorities’ ranks and they would know I’m in the country, thus putting my life at risk.”
Not knowing that more was coming his way. On 28 April 2023, Setsetse filed a court order against Stanfield at the Western Cape High Court pertaining to the income that was being channelled into Ayepyep Lifestyle Cape Town.
According to reports, the court decision required Stanfield and his wife, Nicole Johnson, to return all 14 of the club’s speed points, which were removed by the gang leader’s men and replaced with speed points belonging to Johnson’s cousin, who was collecting all of the club’s funds. Johnson is the establishment’s general manager in Cape Town.
The court order states that Johnson’s suspension from Ayepyep Cape Town has been scrapped. In addition, it states that Setsetse and Stanfield “undertake not to contact each other indirectly or directly” and that Stanfield “undertakes not to attend the venue”.
Even after that the gang still continued terrorising the establishment and its employees. The owner is now helpless as he said: “I did not take it lightly as I have heard horrifying stories about him, some of which he told me himself about. Losing my business partner in that dreadful manner created a lot of trauma and anxiety for my family and me. It is no secret that businessmen are not safe in our country.”
