Recounting the heart-wrenching moment, Nadia reveals that she had spoken to her beloved partner just minutes before receiving the shocking news of his untimely death.

The incident occurred outside a restaurant on Florida Road in Durban, leaving Nadia shattered and grappling with profound grief.
“I was Ayanda’s event, she asked me to perform and I spoke to him 10-minutes before he passed away because he Facetimed me.
So Don’s girlfriend, Azola Mon was sitting next to me, and he calls me in the greatest of spirits, ‘Baby, what are you wearing, let me see what you’re wearing’, and then he said ok I’m gonna go get ready to go to the club.
And then literally, 10-minutes later, Azola comes to me and says she needs to talk to me, and she pulled me aside to tell me that Kiernan was shot.
It didn’t register that she said he was shot fatally. I just thought he was shot in the shoulder, or the leg, but also I was like, what do you mean shot?
I literally ran out of the venue, Azola came with me and I went home and we were waiting for confirmation. We got in the car and drove to Durban immediately, which was kinda pointless because there was nothing I could do, but I just had to get there.”
In a poignant revelation, rapper Nadia Nakai also disclosed that her boyfriend, AKA, expressed a desire to transition away from club gigs and focus solely on music festivals and launch events just two weeks prior to his untimely death.
During the emotional interview, Nadia opens up about the profound changes she observed in AKA as his life drew to a close.
She shares that as the tragic event neared, it seemed as though the renowned rapper had an intuition that his time on earth was limited.
Nadia describes witnessing a deep spiritual connection within AKA during his final days, suggesting a profound closeness to God.
“It’s so difficult to explain the person Kiernan was when he was with me. I’m sure he was spiritual all his life, but I feel like closer to the end, he was so close to God that I have no doubt that he’s right next to God.
The first month was hard, for everyone especially Kiernan’s family because they had to pack up all his stuff. And then, I went back home and Lynn (AKA’s mom) and my friends stayed with me for a month.
I feel like they had me on suicide watch to be honest, but when I started working again there was so much support and I felt I was so undeserving, because people that were rallying behind me, they’d lost him too.
But it was tough, my first gig back was a mess and I was scared, so I had to beef up my security, because I just couldn’t believe that something like that could happen in South Africa.”
