With pain in our hearts, and such a sad news for the entertainment industry in South Africa – Teboho Mahlatsi, a renowned writer, director, and producer, has passed away.
It was announced by David Kau, the award-winning comedian and filmmaker, who didn’t provide many details but mentioned that Mahlatsi passed away on Monday, 3rd July 2023.

The family has asked for privacy during this difficult time, so not much information is available yet.

Teboho Mahlatsi was involved in several significant film projects, including the groundbreaking youth drama Yizo Yizo (1999), currently available on Netflix.
He also worked on films like Portrait of a Young Man Drowning (1999) and For Love and Broken Bones (2016). Over the years, he played a key role in creating popular drama series like Jacob’s Cross, Isibaya, and Ayeye.
After spending two decades with Bomb Productions, Mahlatsi recently started his own company, Moseling Films. He also directed music videos for artists like Khuli Chana and Zola.
It’s a big loss to the industry and many people – including his friends, peers and fans – are mourning the iconic filmmaker.

Teboho Mahlatsi was seen as a trailblazer and an inspiration to aspiring filmmakers and producers. His absence will be deeply felt as this is a shocking blow to Mzansi’s entertainment industry.
