In a heartfelt tribute, Pinky Gumede, sister of the late singer Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo, remembered her brother and their mother Zamanguni Gumede on their respective birthdays.

The bond between mother and son was unbreakable, evident even in their final moments on Earth.

Mampintsha passed away on 24 December 2022 after suffering a stroke, while his mother Zamanguni Gumede followed just over three weeks later, also succumbing to a stroke.

In a chat with SurgeZirc SA, Pinky reflecting on their relationship shared that despite their differences, her mother and brother were “ibi nga mathe no limi,” meaning they were as thick as thieves.

Their love for each other was undeniable, this was apparent in the timing of their passing.

“My mom was heartbroken by Mandla’s death, and the way she died proved it,” Pinky expressed.

On their special day – which was 26th and 27th of June respectively – Pinky took to social media to share a warm message, and in the privacy of her home, she lit a candle in honor of her late mother and brother – Mampintsha – offering a heartfelt prayer for them.

“I miss them so much. I miss my brother’s jokes and laughter. I miss my mother’s support and love.

She was kind and caring and was the person you went to for wisdom,” Pinky reminisced.

Pinky revealed that she has maintained a healthy relationship with Bongekile “Babes Wodumo” Simelane, who is her late brother’s wife.

While each individual is healing in their own way, they have found peace and understanding.

Babes Wodumo will forever be her sister-in-law, and Pinky is focused on her own healing and moving forward from the unexpected loss of her loved ones – Mampintsha and her mum.

“They came at a time when I didn’t expect them at all,” she concluded, emphasizing the challenging nature of their passing.
