Family Hosts Concert To Save Zahara’s House

They have reached out to some musicians to perform at the event, but due to financial constraints, they cannot pay them their usual booking fees. Instead, the family plans to compensate them with a small fee they call a "cold drink."

The family of the late multi-platinum-selling singer Zahara, whose real name was Bulelwa Mkutukana, is organizing a concert to raise funds to buy back her Roodepoort house.

This house held a special place in Zahara’s heart, and she had tried to save it in 2022. Unfortunately, Zahara passed away on 11 December last year after spending almost three weeks at a private hospital in Johannesburg. She was laid to rest in her home province, Eastern Cape, on 23 December.

In 2022, the Afropop singing sensation was on the verge of losing her townhouse due to defaulting on her monthly instalments of R17,665.40.

Nedbank, which had given her a R1.9 million loan, was set to auction off her home to the highest bidder. Zahara went public and asked for donations, expressing her gratitude when she received help from a major donor, a businessman.

Following Zahara’s passing, there were reports that the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), led by Julius Malema, had donated R100,000 towards her loan.

However, it seems that the donation was not enough, as Zahara’s house was auctioned before she passed away. According to her sisters, Marten Bekker, who bought the house, allowed Zahara to stay in it for a few months while she tried to raise funds to repurchase it.

The event will be hosted by former Scandal! actress Lusanda Mbane and will feature artists such as Khanyisa Sabuka, Butho Vuthela, Ivory Sikepe, Nathi Mankayi, and Zahara’s best friend, Vusi Nova.

Vusi Nova has been a pillar of support for the family throughout Zahara’s time in the hospital, during the funeral arrangements, and after her burial. He has even provided guidance for Zahara’s reality TV show, which aired on SABC1.

The concert aims to bring together music lovers and fans of Zahara to celebrate her life and raise funds to repurchase her beloved Roodepoort house.

It is an opportunity for the community to show their support and appreciation for the late singer’s talent and contribution to the music industry.
