The ongoing feud between Zama Ngcobo and Ameigh Thompson, personalities from the Real Housewives of Durban (RHOD), has captured widespread attention and transcended the boundaries of reality television.
The origin of this animosity dates back to Zama Ngcobo’s 40th birthday celebration, a significant event showcased in the third episode of RHOD’s fourth season.
During this celebration, Zama openly questioned the legitimacy of a 2022 hijacking incident involving Ameigh, insinuating that it might have been staged for public attention.
This bold accusation struck a nerve with Ameigh Thompson, who vehemently defended the authenticity of the hijacking incident.
According to Ameigh, the harrowing event was indeed genuine, having occurred while she was accompanied by her children and a friend, Sli Khumalo. Ameigh claimed that Sli was in collusion with her estranged husband, Ivan Marvis, an alleged known drug dealer, to repossess a Porsche Cayenne.
However, Sli Khumalo has fiercely countered these accusations by alleging that Ameigh fabricated the entire hijacking incident, including the injuries she claimed to have sustained.
According to Sli, Ameigh’s allegations are a ploy to divert attention from her own legal issues. Sli further accused Ameigh of facing a pending court case for producing fraudulent documents in an attempt to sell a house that was placed in a trust by Ivan Marvis.
The suggestion that such a traumatic experience was fabricated deeply offended Ameigh and sparked the initial flames of their ongoing conflict.
The tension between the two escalated rapidly when Ameigh sought legal recourse to address the defamatory remarks made by Zama.
On April 24, 2024, Ameigh’s legal team issued a formal letter of demand to Zama, accusing her of tarnishing Ameigh’s reputation and insisting on a retraction of the statements made both on RHOD and across social media platforms.
Despite these demands, Zama Ngcobo chose to ignore the letter, further aggravating the situation.
In response to Zama’s noncompliance, Ameigh’s legal representatives escalated their efforts by issuing a subsequent letter that reiterated their demands.
This second letter emphasized the necessity for the immediate removal of the contentious social media posts and called for a public apology from Zama.
The legal battle between the two women continues to unfold, with both parties firmly entrenched in their positions, adding a layer of seriousness to what initially appeared to be a reality TV spat.
