Drama Series Queendom Cast And Crew Reportedly Down Tools Over Salaries

'Queendom' is not the only show by Clive Morris Productions that has faced payment delays. Another show, called 'Empini', which is yet to premiere, has also experienced similar issues.

The cast and crew of the new BET Africa daily drama series, ‘Queendom’, have reportedly stopped working due to non-payment issues.

According to Zimoja, Clive Morris Productions, the company behind the series, sent out letters informing the actors and crew about payment delays. However, the source reveals that this is not the first time they have faced such issues.

“They sent out letters saying payments were delayed, but this is nonsense,” said a source. “Why do we always have to go to the media to expose them for us to be paid? We worked, so pay us, it’s that simple.”

The source further reveals that executive producer Khayelihle Dominique Gumede and Clive Morris visited the set of ‘Queendom’ to explain the situation. However, the cast and crew are still waiting for their salaries.

‘Queendom’ is not the only show by Clive Morris Productions that has faced payment delays. Another show, called ‘Empini’, which is yet to premiere, has also experienced similar issues.

The fact that two channels, Mzansi Magic and BET, are involved raises concerns about the production company’s ability to manage payments.

Executive producer Khayelihle Dominique Gumede spoke to Zimoja regarding the payment delays. Gumede claimed that there was a slight delay after the Easter break but assured that all payments had been sorted out.

However, the source denies this claim, stating that they still have not received their salaries.

“Multichoice is in very good standing, they paid us. ‘Empini’ specifically had nothing to do with the broadcaster. Payment delays are being sorted,” Gumede said.

‘Queendom’ is rooted in destiny and revolves around the life of Nthandokayise Mthombeni, played by Linda Mtoba. The series presents a world in which women rise, challenge patriarchy, and reign. It explores themes of cultural heritage, tradition, fate, ancestry, power struggles, identity, and survival.
