South African comedian and actor Siv Ngesi is not holding back when it comes to expressing his outrage over the recent admission by ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula.
Mbalula confessed that the party had lied to the country regarding former President Jacob Zuma’s controversial Nkandla “firepool”.
In 2014, former public protector Thuli Madonsela uncovered that Zuma had unduly benefited from upgrades to his homestead, including a R3.9 million swimming pool disguised as a “fire pool” for firefighting purposes. Madonsela recommended that Zuma repay a portion of the R246-million spent on the upgrades, a ruling that was later confirmed by the Constitutional Court.
During an ANC event in Barberton, Mpumalanga, Mbalula openly admitted that the party had lied in defense of Zuma during the Nkandla debacle. This confession didn’t sit well with Ngesi, who took to social media to share his thoughts.
Ngesi shared a video of Mbalula’s admission, labeling it an “own goal” for the ANC. He questioned, “Did this man just admit that they did all they could to defend Zuma, even when they knew he was in the wrong? Did he just admit that they lied under oath to defend Zuma?”
The comedian didn’t stop there. He urged his followers to vote out the ANC in the upcoming elections, emphasizing that the party’s actions were unacceptable.
With public figures like Ngesi speaking out against the ANC’s dishonesty, it’s clear that the party’s credibility is taking a significant hit. As the country gears up for the next election, it remains to be seen how these revelations will impact the political landscape.
