Babes Wodumo’s health has been the subject of discussion and speculation for months. Just this weekend, a social media message said she was no longer alive.
The Gqom musician, whose real name is Bongekile Simelani, is resting at her parent’s home after being discharged from the hospital more than two months ago, SurgeZirc SA can confirm.

Some Babes’ sources revealed that the singer is at her parent’s home recovering from “lung-related issues”.
According to the source, Babes became ill in May and was transported to the hospital, where she stayed for a few days.
“Babes is fine, she is now gearing herself up for the festive, she wants to be 100% ready for the festive season”, adds the source.
According to another insider, she will return to the studio to finalize the last touches on her next album. We can also confirm that her record, as well as Mampintsha’s, will be released posthumously.
“Before his death, her husband made the music he was supposed to release but DJ Tira wanted him to work on Big Nuz, so there is a lot of material that is sitting with Babes,” says the source.
Babes had to leave the house she shared with her late husband owing to health issues. She’s returned to her parent’s home, where her mother is nursing her back to health.
According to another source, she couldn’t stay at the house she shared with Mampintsha because there were always people coming in and out to record or just hang out. There is a recording studio in the house.
Babes is thinking about hiring a new professional management team because her sister, who is now her manager, has been arranging gigs despite the fact that Babes is tired and sick, SurgeZirc SA has also learned.
According to the source, Babes was meant to play at an event last weekend at the University of Zululand, but she did not show up. “Her sister is aware of her condition, that she is not fit enough to perform, but she still signs her up, causing her more stress and brand damage,” the source continues.
