Ekurhuleni Police Arrest Homeowner After Recovering Stolen Vehicle
Police in Ekurhuleni have detained a 46-year-old man after recovering a stolen vehicle from his property. The car, a black Toyota Starlet, was discovered in the Tembisa area.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD), the arrest was made following a tip-off from a reliable source.
Thepa detailed the sequence of events, stating that law enforcers responded to information about a suspected stolen motor vehicle parked inside a yard on Brian Mazibuko Street.
Upon arrival, the EMPD crime-fighting unit found the Toyota Starlet, which had false number plates. The vehicle was tested, and results confirmed that it had been reported stolen recently in the Meyerton area.
The homeowner, who was found in possession of the car keys, was interviewed by the officers. Failing to provide a satisfactory explanation, he was subsequently arrested and taken to the Tembisa police station.
The 46-year-old man now faces charges of possession of a stolen vehicle and is expected to appear before the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court soon.
The recovered Toyota Starlet was transported to the Aeroton police yard for further investigations. Lieutenant Colonel Thepa emphasized the importance of community cooperation in fighting crime, acknowledging the critical role played by the tip-off in this successful operation.
