Durban Robbery Suspects Killed In High-Speed Chase And Shoot-Out

Three alleged armed robbery suspects were fatally wounded following a high-speed chase and shoot-out in Manor Gardens, Durban, on Thursday.

The incident is believed to have followed an armed robbery at Durban Halaal Meats in Overport. A fourth suspect was injured during the confrontation and was taken to hospital under police guard.

Durban Robbery Suspects Killed After High-Speed Chase

The suspects allegedly fled the Overport area after holding up staff at the meat business. A Marshall Security spokesperson said members spotted the suspects travelling outside the area, prompting a high-speed pursuit that eventually moved into Manor Gardens.

The chase ended when the suspects' vehicle came to a halt on Mary Thiphe Street.

"Shots were fired at responding members and vehicles. The pursuit continued into the Manor Gardens area, where the suspects’ vehicle eventually came to a stop on Mary Thiphe Street," the spokesperson said.

ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said emergency crews found three suspects who had already succumbed to their gunshot wounds when they arrived. A fourth man had sustained injuries and was treated by paramedics at the scene. He was later transported to hospital while being guarded by police.

"A fourth suspect has been treated for wounds sustained. He is stable at the moment and will be taken to hospital, for further care, under police guard," he said.

Jamieson said no other people were injured during the incident. The circumstances surrounding the shooting will form part of the investigation. Police and security personnel were involved in the response following the alleged robbery.

Durban Halaal Meats Robbery Left Staff Traumatised

Durban Halaal Meats owner Muhammed Ameer was at the scene following the shooting. He said that three men had entered the business and threatened employees before taking the security guard's firearm. The suspects allegedly then removed several items from the shop.

"Three guys came into the store. They subdued our security guard and took his firearm," he said.

Ameer said the robbers made off with cash, meat and mobile phones from the premises. He said he was thankful that SAPS and Marshall Security responded and pursued the suspects after the robbery. The pursuit eventually led officers and security personnel towards Mayville.

"I am grateful that SAPS and Marshall Security got involved and they followed the guys to Mayville," he said.

Durban Robbery: Stolen Items Recovered From Suspects' Vehicle

Ameer said the robbery had left employees traumatised, although he was relieved that none of the staff members had been physically injured. He added that the property allegedly taken during the robbery was found inside the suspects' vehicle after the pursuit. The recovered goods included the items taken from the business.

He said the necessary investigations would now have to be completed before the recovered property could be returned. Authorities are expected to continue examining the circumstances surrounding the robbery and subsequent shoot-out. The injured suspect remains under police guard while receiving medical treatment.
