Seven Killed And Five Injured In Cape Town Mass Shootings

Seven people lost their lives and five others were injured in two separate mass shootings in Tafelsig and Philippi East on Wednesday night. Western Cape police have launched murder and attempted murder investigations while stepping up deployments in the affected communities. Detectives are working to identify those responsible for both attacks.

The first shooting was reported shortly after 8pm in Laure Street and 8th Avenue in Lost City, Tafelsig. Less than 30 minutes later, officers were called to another deadly shooting in Marcus Garvey, Philippi East, where four more people were killed.

Tafelsig Mass Shooting Leaves Three Dead And Two Injured

Western Cape police said the first attack happened at around 8:10pm when a group of men were standing outside a local tuck shop. Armed suspects allegedly approached the group before opening fire.

Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut said three victims, aged 18, 19 and 51, died at the scene after sustaining gunshot wounds. Two other victims, aged 17 and 22, survived the attack and were taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Philippi East Mass Shooting Claims Four Lives

At approximately 8:30pm, police responded to another shooting in Marcus Garvey, Philippi East. Seven people had been shot during the incident.

Traut said four victims, aged between 17 and 20, died from their injuries. Three others were admitted to hospital and are receiving medical treatment.

Police said the circumstances surrounding both shootings remain under investigation. The motive has not yet been established and forms part of the ongoing inquiry.

Western Cape Police Increase Deployments After Mass Shootings

Following the attacks, Western Cape police confirmed that additional officers have been deployed to the affected areas to help prevent further violence. Visible policing and crime prevention operations have been intensified as authorities seek to restore calm in the communities.

Police management has condemned the shootings and reaffirmed its commitment to bringing those responsible to justice.
