Top Racing Driver Robert Wolk Shot Dead In Kempton Park Road-rage Attack

South African motorsport is mourning the death of Robert Wolk, the 41-year-old racing champion who was fatally shot in Kempton Park on Wednesday evening, 16 September 2026.

Wolk was killed at the intersection of Camwood Street and Portland Drive in Esther Park following an alleged road-rage confrontation after a minor collision. Police have opened a murder investigation, but no arrests had been announced at the time of reporting.

Wolk leaves behind an extraordinary record in South African motorsport, having competed successfully in karting, single-seaters, touring cars and other circuit-racing categories.

According to Motorsport South Africa, his achievements included South African Junior GP Karting Championship titles in 1995 and 1997, multiple Formula Ford championships, the 2013 SA Formula Volkswagen Championship and the 2015 SA Formula 1600 Championship. He also won consecutive SA GTC titles in 2021 and 2022 before claiming the 2024 SA Touring Cars Championship.

His success continued into 2026. Wolk won his second Simola Hillclimb King of the Hill title in May and returned to South African Touring Cars with a victory at Aldo Scribante in June.
