Cameron Waldeck-Cooks’ Brother Breaks Silence After Teen’s Death At Mpumalanga Lodge: "Her Corpse Lay Lifeless With Injuries"

The brother of Cameron Waldeck-Cooks has spoken publicly for the first time since the 17-year-old St Stithians Girls’ College pupil was found dead at a lodge in Sabie, Mpumalanga.

Cameron and 19-year-old Ethan Coetzee, a former learner at St Stithians Boys’ College, were discovered dead inside a lodge room on Monday, 3 August 2026. Their deaths initially led police to open an inquest docket after officers were called to the scene.

Cameron Waldeck-Cooks Death Under Investigation After Post-Mortem Findings

Police were alerted after receiving a report that two people had died at the Sabie lodge. Mpumalanga SAPS spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo said officers arrived to find the bodies of a 19-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl, who were both declared dead at the scene. Cameron Waldeck-Cooks’ death is now being investigated differently after post-mortem examinations reportedly revealed that she had allegedly been strangled.

According to Masondo, the post-mortem results indicated that Cameron had allegedly died from strangulation.

The findings also indicated that Coetzee had allegedly taken his own life. Police had initially said there were no indications of foul play, but the subsequent findings have placed renewed focus on the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death.

Cameron Waldeck-Cooks Brother Speaks Out On Tragic Death

Cameron’s brother, Ethan Waldeck-Cooks, shared an emotional statement on Instagram several days after his sister’s death. In the post, he described the condition in which Cameron’s body was discovered and directly accused Coetzee of killing her. Cameron Waldeck-Cooks’ brother said the impact of the tragedy would remain with their family.

“My sister Cameron Waldeck-Cooks was found dead on Sunday, 02 August 2026. Her corpse lay lifeless with injuries on several parts of her body,” he wrote.

“She was murdered by Ethan Coetzee,” he said, alleging that Coetzee strangled his sister to death and that she did not die peacefully. He added that the trauma caused by the tragedy would never be forgotten by his family.

The teenager’s brother said he felt it was important to make the family’s account public following Cameron’s death. His statement comes as police continue examining the circumstances surrounding the deaths at the Sabie lodge. “It is important that I share this,” he concluded his post.
