AfriForum Rejects Trump’s Refuge Offer, Reaffirms Commitment To South Africa

AfriForum and the Solidarity Movement have publicly rejected US President Donald Trump’s offer to resettle Afrikaner farmers in the United States, affirming that Afrikaners’ future remains in South Africa.

At a joint press briefing on Saturday, the Afrikaner civil rights group and trade union movement stated that white South Africans would not emigrate, despite Trump’s claims of discrimination under the Land Expropriation Act.

Trump’s Executive Order Cuts US Aid to South Africa

The rejection follows Trump’s executive order signed on Friday, which cuts US financial assistance to South Africa, particularly HIV funding via the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The order also prioritises Afrikaner resettlement through the US refugee program, accusing Pretoria of anti-white discrimination.

AfriForum responded by blaming President Cyril Ramaphosa’s government for the deteriorating relationship with Washington but stated that solutions must be found locally.

Afrikaners Are Not Leaving

AfriForum CEO Kallie Kriel emphasised that Afrikaners must preserve their cultural identity in South Africa rather than seeking refuge abroad.

He stated that emigration only offers an opportunity for Afrikaners who are willing to risk sacrificing their descendants’ cultural identity. He added that the price for that is simply too high.

Kriel further insisted that Afrikaners owe it to their forefathers to continue shaping their identity within South Africa rather than abandoning the country.

Solidarity Movement Chairman Flip Buys announced plans to engage directly with Ramaphosa to discuss Afrikaner concerns. He also plans to visit the United States to seek practical solutions that benefit all South Africans.

Buys reaffirmed his belief that while US concerns are valid, the solution must be found in South Africa. He also emphasised the importance of working with the South African government rather than relying on external intervention.

AfriForum Denounces “Fake News” Over Sanctions

Buys dismissed claims that AfriForum had lobbied for sanctions against South Africa or the cutting of US aid. He clarified that Trump’s order resulted from the ANC’s reckless policies, not a disinformation campaign from AfriForum.

AfriForum outlined several proposals to address challenges faced by Afrikaners and broader South African society. The organisation aims to amend the Basic Education Law Amendment Act (BELA) to protect Afrikaans schools and challenge the Expropriation Act, which threatens property rights.

AfriForum also called for South Africa to adopt a neutral stance on international conflicts, arguing that the ANC’s anti-Western foreign policy is harming the country’s economy.

The organisation proposed the establishment of a cultural accord with the South African government to protect Afrikaner institutions and foster cooperation between cultural communities.

Addressing issues of racial discrimination, AfriForum urged the government to stop hostility toward Afrikaner institutions and to take action against hate speech, including the controversial “Kill the Boer” chant.

The organisation also emphasised the need for stronger law enforcement to protect all citizens, including targeted efforts to end farm murders.

In response to corruption, AfriForum demanded the urgent prosecution of individuals identified in the State Capture Inquiry (Zondo Commission).

The organisation also called for community involvement in service delivery and proposed partnerships between civil society organisations and the government to improve infrastructure and governance.

South African Government Responds to Trump’s Orders

Earlier on Saturday, International Relations Minister Ronald Lamola slammed Washington’s claims, accusing the US government of misinformation.

President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that a government delegation would visit global capitals, including the US and African nations, to explain South Africa’s position on land expropriation, foreign policy neutrality, and the ICJ case against Israel.

Despite Trump’s intervention, AfriForum and Solidarity remain committed to finding solutions within South Africa. They insist that Afrikaners must secure their future locally rather than seeking refuge abroad.

With diplomatic tensions between Washington and Pretoria escalating, the coming weeks could shape the future of US-South Africa relations.
