Due to dangerous road conditions in Mpumalanga, vehicles slid off the N4 near eMalahleni on Tuesday morning, Mpumalanga Community Safety spokesperson Moeti Mmusi confirmed.
Certain parts of the province have encountered heavier snowfall since Monday, coinciding with a substantial cold front passing through South Africa’s interior.

As a result, the road conditions in the province have become dangerous.
Mmusi confirmed that there have been no reported fatalities on the roads thus far, but he cautioned that certain roads have been closed.

He stated, “We can confirm the presence of snow on the roads, causing slippery conditions. We strongly advise motorists to exercise caution when approaching that particular stretch of road or any other areas within the province, as driving on roads in Ermelo, Sabie, Mbombela, and Lydenburg is currently extremely hazardous.”
“We urge motorists to remain vigilant while using these roads. Currently, the R37 is completely closed, and we will assess the situation throughout the day to determine if it will become safe for driving.”
