The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has confirmed that several areas in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, and Johannesburg are currently experiencing light snowfall.
Residents of Gauteng woke up to snowflakes falling from the sky on Monday morning, marking the coldest day of the year so far.

Temperatures in the southern parts of the province dropped to at least -6 degrees Celsius. SA Weather Services (SAWS) had predicted very cold conditions for Gauteng today.
They stated, “A cold front will cause a significant decrease in temperatures across Gauteng. In certain places, maximum temperatures are expected to drop between nine and 13°C. Windy conditions are also anticipated, and due to the wind chill factor, temperatures may feel even colder than the measured values.”
SurgeZirc SA gathered that, in Mpumalanga, SAWS cautioned about colder weather in the southern parts of the Highveld, with rainfall expected over the escarpment to Lowveld areas.
They mentioned, “Light snowfall and sleet are possible over the eastern Highveld, specifically in Belfast, Dullstroom, Roossenkal Pass, Mariepskop, and Mount Anderson, where temperatures will reach a high of 6°C.”

For KwaZulu-Natal, SAWS issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for disruptive snowfalls, which could lead to icy roads, traffic disruptions, and isolated losses of vulnerable livestock and crops in the southwestern parts of the province.
They also warned of a Yellow Level 2 warning for strong and damaging winds along the KZN coast, which may result in small vessels capsizing, navigation difficulties, and temporary disruptions of small harbors and ports.
