Four men believed to be connected to the murder of a mother and her daughter in Durban were killed in a shoot-out with the police. The 48-year-old mother and her 22-year-old daughter were found murdered in Emachobeni in Inanda on Friday night.
The following day, the KwaZulu-Natal police received intelligence about the suspects who were believed to be on their way to perform cleansing rituals at Mpophomeni. Acting on this information, the police intercepted the suspects’ vehicle in the Eskebheni area in uMzinyathi and signaled for the driver to stop.

However, instead of complying, the occupants of the vehicle opened fire on the police officers. In response, the tactically prepared police officers returned fire. As a result of the shoot-out, all four suspects were fatally wounded. Three firearms were recovered from the possession of the suspects.
This incident follows a similar one last month in Hillcrest, where two suspects allegedly linked to at least three murders were killed in a gun battle with the police. The suspects were spotted traveling in a vehicle and when asked to stop, they opened fire on the police officers.

In both cases, the police officers were left with no choice but to defend themselves and return fire. These incidents highlight the dangers faced by law enforcement officers in their efforts to protect the community and bring criminals to justice.
The police will continue their investigations to determine the full extent of the suspects’ involvement in the murders and any possible connections to other crimes. The swift and decisive actions of the police in apprehending these suspects demonstrate their commitment to maintaining law and order in the community.
