In a recent development, a security officer at the SAPS Garage and a taxi driver were arrested after allegations of possession of stolen state property.
The incident took place on 16 October 2023 at approximately 02:00, when two vigilant members from the Welkom Client Service Centre were attending to complaints and conducting a camp inspection at the station perimeter. During the inspection, they noticed a minibus parked in front of the South African Police Service state garage.

Upon approaching the vehicle, the minibus driver quickly drove away. Determined to investigate further, the members blocked the vehicle and conducted a thorough search. To their surprise, they discovered two 25-litre diesel containers and a pipe that was allegedly used to drain diesel from police vehicles.

The minibus driver, a 37-year-old individual, was immediately arrested on the spot. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of a 40-year-old security official who was on duty at the state garage during the time of the incident.
Both suspects have been charged with possession and theft of state property. They are expected to appear in the Welkom Magistrate Court in the near future.
