Zwai Bala Breaks Silence On The Bala Family Season 3: ‘The Decision Wasn’t Ours’
After almost two years of trying to bring the family back to television, Zwai Bala has confirmed that The Bala Family Season 3 will not happen anytime soon — and the decision has left the family disappointed.

South African music fans have been waiting, hoping and asking the same question: When is The Bala Family coming back? Now, Zwai Bala has finally given them an answer — and it is probably not the one they wanted to hear.
The musician, producer and television personality has confirmed that The Bala Family Season 3 is not on the immediate horizon, despite the family spending nearly two years attempting to get another season off the ground.
And according to Zwai, this was not a case of the Bala siblings simply deciding they were done with reality television. In fact, he says the family was ready to once again open up their homes, relationships, music and sometimes complicated family dynamics to viewers.
Instead, the decision appears to have been made outside the family.
The Bala Family Season 3 Isn’t Happening Anytime Soon
Taking to social media, Zwai addressed the show's loyal audience directly, saying the family felt it was time to stop leaving fans guessing.
“For close to two years, we have been trying to make another season of The Bala Family happen,” he said.

Zwai explained that the family wanted to return and was prepared to continue sharing their lives with viewers. But despite those efforts, he confirmed that Season 3 “is not happening in the near future”.
Perhaps the biggest bombshell in his announcement was his clarification that the decision was not made by the Bala family.
“We won’t pretend we’re not disappointed. We are,” Zwai admitted.
And that disappointment makes sense when you consider just how personal the show has been for the family. The Bala Family was never simply about cameras following famous siblings around — it put their relationships, history, music and family tensions under the microscope.
Why Fans Will Be Disappointed By The Bala Family News
Since debuting on Mzansi Magic, The Bala Family has given viewers a front-row seat to one of South Africa’s best-known musical families.
The series has explored everything from family disagreements and personal relationships to the Bala brothers’ shared passion for music. But beneath the drama, Zwai believes the show's biggest attraction has always been the family itself.
“The heart of this story has always been the family. The generations of talent. The music. The laughter. The disagreements. The healing. The history,” he said.

And judging by the reaction from fans over the years, they clearly agree. Zwai pointed to the messages the family continues to receive, online conversations and the response whenever members of the Bala family perform together as proof that audiences still have an appetite for their story.
That makes the latest update particularly bittersweet.
Zwai also apologised to viewers who have been patiently waiting for the show's return, acknowledging that the family’s own optimism may have made it sound as though Season 3 was guaranteed.
“We were ready. The audience was ready. The decision wasn’t ours,” he said.
For now, fans will have to settle for seeing the Bala family together away from the reality-TV cameras.
Season 2 of The Bala Family premiered on Mzansi Magic in August 2024 and wrapped up in November that year. With Zwai now confirming that another season is not happening in the near future, viewers may have a considerably longer wait before the Bala family returns to their screens.
