Zulu Royals Refuse To Attend King Misuzulu’s Unity Meeting After SCA Ruling

A section of the Zulu royal family has announced that they will not take part in the upcoming unity meeting called by King Misuzulu kaZwelithini. The decision follows the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) ruling that confirmed the King’s official recognition by the South African government.

The monarch had extended an invitation to all sides of the royal family in an effort to mend divisions that have plagued the throne since the passing of King Goodwill Zwelithini. However, the rift between the factions appears far from over.

King Misuzulu Urges Peace Amid Deepening Divisions

In response to the SCA judgment last week, King Misuzulu said the ruling was not a moment for celebration but rather an opportunity to strengthen unity within the royal household.

He expressed hope that reconciliation would prevail over the ongoing dispute surrounding his succession.

Despite his appeal for peace, the opposing faction remains unconvinced. Those aligned with Prince Simakade, who has long contested Misuzulu’s leadership, say they were not properly informed about the meeting.

Prince Simakade’s Supporters Claim Exclusion from Meeting

Prince Thokozani Zulu, a spokesperson for the faction supporting Prince Simakade, said they only became aware of the scheduled gathering through social media. He questioned the sincerity of King Misuzulu’s call for unity, pointing to the lack of a direct invitation to Prince Simakade.

“Particularly his majesty, Zondamagwala [Simakade], has not been invited. Now we understand that there are two main actors in these developments. Now, how then do you not invite Zonadamagwala?

“When you are sincere, when you really mean that there must be peace and so-called unity?” said Prince Thokozani.

The unity meeting is expected to take place at King Misuzulu’s eMashobeni royal palace in oPhongolo on 29 October 2025. Whether it will bring the royal family closer together—or deepen the divide—remains to be seen.
