Zulu King Misuzulu Calls Off Wedding To His Fiancée Nomzamo Myeni

Zulu King Misuzulu KaZwelithini has cancelled his planned wedding to fiancée Nomzamo Myeni, a move that has sparked widespread speculation and further strained relations within the royal family.
In a formal letter addressed to Nonhlanhla Mkhize, the director-general in the Office of the Premier in KwaZulu-Natal, King Misuzulu announced the decision on Sunday. The wedding, initially set for January 24 and 26, 2025, in Jozini, had already seen lobola negotiations finalised, with preparations for a grand traditional ceremony underway.

Termination of Arrangements
“I write to formally instruct the immediate withdrawal of all benefits and security detail previously assigned to Ms Nomzamo Myeni.
“Due to reasons beyond the control of the Royal House, the traditional wedding ceremonies involving Ms. Myeni have been called off. As a result, it has become necessary to terminate all associated arrangements,” the King stated in the letter.
He further instructed that Myeni’s security detail be withdrawn by no later than 11:00 AM on Sunday.

Court Challenges and Accusations of Bigamy
The cancellation follows an urgent court application by the King’s first wife, Queen Ntokozo kaMayisela, to interdict the marriage. Queen Ntokozo, who is legally married to the King under South African civil law, argued that the planned marriage to Myeni would amount to bigamy and violate South African law.

In her court filings, the Queen also raised concerns about the potential for family turmoil and chaos. “Another marriage will create instability within the royal family,” she warned, emphasising that the legal standing of their civil marriage must be respected.

Queen Ntokozo and King Misuzulu, who wed in 2021 before his coronation, are currently embroiled in a contentious divorce battle at the Pietermaritzburg High Court. The couple shares children together.
Shocking Developments in the Royal Court
The announcement comes amid further upheaval in the royal household. On Saturday, King Misuzulu dismissed his longtime confidant, Prince Simphiwe Zulu of KwaMinyamanzi Royal House, a move that surprised many within the court.
The recent developments highlight growing tensions within the royal family and cast uncertainty over the King’s leadership and personal decisions.
As the royal house navigates these disputes, questions remain about the impact this turmoil will have on the King’s reign and the stability of the Zulu monarchy.
