Zimbabwean Man Arrested In Limpopo Driving Stolen R2.5 Million Nissan Patrol To Beitbridge

Police in Limpopo have recovered a high-performance Nissan Patrol V8 worth more than R2.5 million during a targeted anti-smuggling operation aimed at intercepting stolen vehicles headed for the Beitbridge border.

The operation, carried out along the busy N1 highway near Polokwane on Wednesday, was a collaborative effort involving Limpopo SAPS, ShadowSecure Security, Tshimollo Security and Investigations, and Tracker Connect.

“Acting on intelligence regarding a stolen vehicle travelling from Gauteng towards the Beitbridge border, the operational team kept strategic observation along the N1 route,” said Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba.

Stolen in Pretoria, Intercepted in Limpopo

Officers identified a Nissan Patrol V8 5.6 matching the description of the stolen vehicle near Shell Ultra City in the Westernburg policing area. The car had been reported stolen in Brooklyn, Pretoria.

The driver, a 51-year-old Zimbabwean national, was arrested on the spot and taken into custody.

“A 51-year-old Zimbabwean national, who was driving the vehicle, was arrested on the spot and charged with possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle,” Mashaba confirmed.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Police Commissioner Applauds Rapid Response

Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the provincial commissioner of police in Limpopo, praised the rapid response and coordination that led to the vehicle’s recovery.

“This swift recovery of a luxurious vehicle is a result of excellent teamwork and coordination between the SAPS and our private security partners,” said Hadebe. “We remain committed to dismantling criminal networks that smuggle stolen vehicles across our borders.”
