Zimbabwean businessman Mudzingayima ‘I’ll Murder You Now And Walk’ Video Puts R107 Million SANRAL Contract Under Scrutiny

Zimbabwean businessman Lawrence Chamurwa Mudzingayima has found himself at the centre of growing scrutiny after a video allegedly showing him threatening women inside a Sandton restaurant went viral.

In the footage from Vlamo restaurant at Sandton Gate, the businessman is heard telling the women, “I’ll murder you now and walk”, while also allegedly threatening to shoot them. The controversy has since widened, with Transport Minister Barbara Creecy directing the South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) board to investigate whether a company allegedly linked to Mudzingayima was lawfully appointed to a R107 million contract.

The footage shows a man identified in reports as Lawrence Mudzingayima confronting women inside the ladies’ bathroom at the Sandton restaurant.

The women are not visible in the recording, but the Zimbabwean businessman is heard making a series of threatening remarks, including, “I’ll murder you now and walk” and “I’ll put a bullet in all of you.”

Mudzingayima is also heard boasting about his wealth and claiming he could purchase the establishment.

“I buy this restaurant. I own it,” he says.

“I’m a wealthy man. You guys are poor ladies.”

The businessman also directs an insult at one of the women during the confrontation, while the footage indicates that he was aware he was being recorded.

Zimbabwean Businessman Claims To Own Sandton Restaurant

The incident reportedly happened after an interaction involving Mudzingayima and the women at Vlamo.

The women are not shown in the video that has circulated online, and the full circumstances leading up to the confrontation have not been established. An intimidation case has reportedly been opened as police investigate the incident.

Vlamo has since moved to distance itself from the Zimbabwean businessman, saying he has no affiliation with the restaurant.

“Once management became aware of the incident, immediate action was taken and the individual was removed from the premises,” the restaurant said.

Vlamo said the man was not employed by, affiliated with or associated with the establishment despite statements made during the confrontation.

The restaurant also said it was particularly concerned about the wellbeing of the women involved and that it remained in contact with them to provide support through the appropriate processes.

Lawrence Mudzingayima Link Puts R107 Million SANRAL Contract Under Spotlight

The controversy surrounding the Zimbabwean businessman has now extended beyond the Sandton restaurant incident.

Transport Minister Barbara Creecy has instructed the SANRAL board to establish whether Moriel Infrastructure Group was appointed in accordance with the law and whether the company is complying with the terms of its R107 million contract.

SANRAL has confirmed that it will conduct the investigation following the minister’s instruction.

The investigation follows scrutiny surrounding the alleged links between Moriel Infrastructure Group and Mudzingayima. However, the probe does not establish that the company was unlawfully appointed or that it breached its contractual obligations.

Those questions will now be examined as part of the investigation ordered by Creecy.

The Zimbabwean businessman therefore remains at the centre of two separate areas of scrutiny: the police investigation into the alleged threats at the Sandton restaurant and the review of the construction company’s SANRAL contract.
