“Zee Nxumalo Goes Hollywood?!” 22-Year-Old Star Turns Ngisakuthanda Into Short Film!

Mzansi’s golden girl, Zee Nxumalo, is proving she’s not just a voice — she’s a full-blown creative powerhouse. At just 22 years old, the multi-award-winning artist is making her directorial debut with Ngisakuthanda: The Short Film, a romantic short inspired by her viral hit of the same name.

And baby, when Zee says she’s in her creative bag — she means it!

Zee Nxumalo’s Ngisakuthanda Goes Cinematic!

The song Ngisakuthanda — featuring DJ Tearz and Dr Thulz — became a viral anthem with over 40 million YouTube views, but Zee felt the story wasn’t over.
“We saw the love the song was receiving, and we felt compelled to do something more,” she told Drum. “The short film is a natural progression, allowing us to explore the emotions and themes of the song in a deeper way.”

Zee describes the film as a visually romantic and intimate journey through love, heartbreak, and growth. “Because love is something everyone can relate to, I believe the film will resonate deeply with people,” she added.

“Dali Kutheni Udlala Ngam?” — From Heartbreak to Healing

The short film follows Zandile, a young woman reflecting on her past relationship and how she’s evolved since. “It’s about a girl who was in love, but life happened — and she grew to want better for herself,” Zee shared.

Just like in her song lyrics — “Dali kutheni udlala ngam” (Darling, why are you playing with me?) — Zee dives into the moment we all know too well: when you realise you’ve outgrown the person you once thought you’d never live without.

“It’s about growth and transformation,” she said. “It’s something everyone who’s ever loved and lost will relate to.”

Coming Soon!

The Ngisakuthanda short film is set to premiere exclusively before hitting streaming platforms — with Zee teasing that she’s already in talks with major brands.
“The official date isn’t out yet,” she revealed, “but I’ll be announcing everything soon.”

One thing’s for sure — if the song was a hit, the short film is about to make waves just as big.
