ZANU-PF Responds To Arrest Of Robert Mugabe’s Son In Johannesburg Attempted Murder Probe

Zimbabwe’s ruling party, ZANU-PF, says it is awaiting clarity from South African authorities following the arrest of the late former president Robert Mugabe’s son in Johannesburg.

The 28-year-old was detained on Thursday at his Hyde Park residence alongside a 33-year-old man. The pair are being questioned in connection with an attempted murder investigation after a 23-year-old employee was shot on the property.

Both suspects are currently being held at the Bramley Police Station as investigations continue.

Police divers were deployed on Thursday evening to help search for the firearm believed to have been used in the incident.

ZANU-PF Reaction to Mugabe’s Son’s Arrest in South Africa

ZANU-PF spokesperson Farai Marapira said the matter should be treated as a private issue involving a private citizen, rather than a party matter.

He stressed that the party maintains a firm position against any form of lawlessness and expressed confidence in South Africa’s legal institutions.

“The party does not flip flop on its stance which was made clear to me by President M that we have zero tolerance for impunity or any matters that may dissuade the pure functioning of the law.

“Be that as it may, we have full belief and trust in the South African legal service and the police that they’ll do a full investigation.

“And at this moment it’s a bit premature to be commenting on the matter until the police has issued a statement. So, we are just waiting on the police to finish the investigation and issue a statement so that can know exactly what has happened.”

Attempted Murder Investigation at Hyde Park Home

Authorities have not yet released an official statement detailing the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

The investigation centres on the alleged attempted murder of a 23-year-old employee at the Hyde Park property in Johannesburg. Police continue to gather evidence, including efforts to recover the missing firearm.

ZANU-PF has indicated it will refrain from further comment until South African police conclude their investigation and issue a formal update.
