Zandie Khumalo Slams Advocate Teffo Over Senzo Meyiwa Allegations

Singer and TV personality Zandie Khumalo-Gumede has fired back at Advocate Malesela Teffo following controversial claims he made about her alleged involvement in the events leading up to the tragic death of soccer star Senzo Meyiwa.

Teffo, a former defence lawyer in the high-profile Meyiwa murder trial, stirred fresh controversy during his appearance on Podcast and Chill with Mac G on 17 July 2025.

In the interview, he levelled serious accusations at Zandie, her sister Kelly Khumalo, and state prosecutor Advocate George Baloyi—rekindling public interest in a case that continues to captivate South Africa.

According to Teffo, Zandie had accompanied Kelly, Senzo, and a male friend on a trip shortly before Meyiwa’s death—a trip he claimed triggered tensions with Zandie’s then-boyfriend, Longwe Twala.

Upon her return, Teffo alleged, a violent confrontation ensued during which Longwe reportedly fired a shot that grazed Zandie’s legs.

He went further, suggesting that an attempted murder case was opened at the time and referenced an affidavit allegedly tied to Longwe.

“He Misses the Spotlight”: Zandie Dismisses Claims

Zandie did not mince words in her response, calling Teffo’s statements nothing more than desperate attempts to regain public attention.

“I didn’t watch the podcast and I have no intention of watching it,” she said. “Teffo is a mad man, desperate for relevance. He clearly misses the attention and spotlight he got from being involved in the case, shame.”

Switching briefly to isiZulu, she added: “Ngeke ngivumelane or ngiphikisane nohlanya. Uyahlanya loyamuntu, animuboni nina?” (“I can’t agree or argue with a mad man. Can’t you all see he’s lost it?”)

Zandie also voiced concern over Teffo’s mental state, saying: “This man is not only a danger to others, but to himself as well.”

No Affidavit, No Interest

When asked about the alleged affidavit mentioned by Teffo, Zandie was unequivocal.

“I don’t know about any affidavit from Longwe, nor do I want to know,” she said. “This man is broke and desperate. If he needs help, he must just open a GoFundMe instead of dragging people into his nonsense.”

Senzo Meyiwa’s brother, Sifiso, confirmed that he had seen Teffo’s interview but declined to comment further.

Meanwhile, efforts to obtain a response from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA)—particularly concerning Teffo’s claims about Advocate Baloyi—were unsuccessful at the time of publication.
