Young Tow Truck Driver Shot Dead In Cape Town Attack

A young tow truck driver’s life was cut short in a shocking shooting incident in Cape Town on Thursday evening.

The 25-year-old victim was reportedly inside his vehicle when gunmen opened fire at the corner of Lower Main Road and Chatham Road in Salt River at approximately 7:15pm. It is believed he had just responded to a road accident moments before the fatal attack.

Tow Truck Driver Gunned Down After Attending Accident

According to initial reports, the victim had just completed his duties at a nearby accident scene when the shooting occurred.

Police confirmed that officers from Woodstock responded to the incident shortly after it was reported.

Police spokesperson Constable Ndakhe Gwala said: “This office confirms that Woodstock police responded to reports of a shooting at the corner of Lower Main Road and Chatham Road at about 19.15pm on Thursday, 26 March 2026.

“Upon arrival at the scene, they found a bullet riddled silver Mitsubishi tow truck.

“Inside was the body of a 25-year-old male who sustained multiple gunshot wounds and succumbed to his injuries on the scene.”

Authorities have since opened a murder case as investigations continue.

Heartbreak as Friend Remembers ‘Loving and Happy’ Victim

The victim’s death has left loved ones devastated. A close family friend, who chose to remain anonymous, described him as more than just a friend.

“He was a very loving person, he smiled with everybody and he was just a happy person,” the friend said.

The tribute paints a picture of a young man whose warmth and kindness touched many in his community.

Residents in Salt River say the incident has rattled the area, where such violence is not commonly reported.

A local community leader, who also requested anonymity, said the motive behind the shooting remains unclear but warned of the emotional toll on residents.

“It is scary because any shooting that takes place has a negative effect on the community. The community then lives in fear because they think it is gang-related.

“Out of previous experiences, especially in Woodstock and Salt River, gang related is random shootings at any given time like we have seen in both areas a couple of years ago.

“It does instil fear in the community, and normally with our people, after a week or so, after everything has calmed down, your livelihood and everything else continues as normal.”

Police are continuing their investigation and have not yet confirmed the motive for the attack.
