A woman’s body has been retrieved from a river in KwaZulu-Natal as emergency teams continue searching for two others still missing after the weekend’s devastating floods.

The trio was swept away on Sunday when heavy rains triggered dangerous flooding in New Hanover, located in the KZN midlands.

The province has been battered by intense downpours, with an orange Level 6 alert issued as severe thunderstorms caused widespread localised flooding.

KZN Department of Human Settlements spokesperson Ndabezinhle Sibiya confirmed that rescue crews made the discovery on Monday morning. “Rescue crews found the body on Monday morning,” he said.
