Woman, 68, Dies After Learning Nephew Was Shot Dead, By Police Officer In Limpopo

A 68-year-old woman in Limpopo collapsed and died shortly after receiving devastating news that her nephew had been shot dead, allegedly by a police officer.
According to Limpopo police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba, the incident unfolded at Botsalanong village when a 48-year-old officer, stationed at Witpoort SAPS, allegedly shot the victim during a heated altercation.
“After this shocking incident, reports suggest that after the man was rushed to hospital, his aunt learnt about the incident, she went to the scene and upon arrival collapsed.
“The emergency medical services personnel were summoned and unfortunately declared her dead at the scene while the man succumbed on arrival at hospital,” said Ledwaba.
What Sparked the Fatal Argument That Led to the Woman’s Death?
Authorities are still investigating what triggered the altercation. Ledwaba revealed that the victim had reportedly gone to the officer’s home to look for him but did not find him there.
“The officer only arrived home after his wife called to say someone was looking for him,” Ledwaba added.

The circumstances leading up to the fatal shooting remain unclear as investigators piece together the events.

Following the shooting, the officer handed himself over to the police. The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has since launched a probe into the incident.
Police confirmed that murder and inquest cases have been opened as part of the ongoing investigation.
