Welkom Police Probe Grim Discovery Of Teen’s Remains In Shallow Grave

Welkom police have launched an inquest following the grim discovery of human remains buried in a shallow grave at Doorn, Welkom. The disturbing find was made on Thursday, 2 October 2025, when officers were called to the scene after a skull was seen protruding from the ground.
Upon arrival, the police confirmed the remains were indeed human and immediately alerted the provincial task team, who were dispatched to retrieve them.
Human Remains Believed to Belong to Teenage Girl
Preliminary investigations suggest the remains are those of a coloured female, possibly between the ages of 12 and 16. At the time of her death, the deceased was wearing a black hooded jacket with the word SWAGA printed on the front pocket.
A broken Blackberry cellphone was also recovered alongside the skeletal remains. The cause of death remains unknown, and authorities are awaiting further forensic results to assist in identifying the victim and uncovering what led to her tragic end.

Police have urged anyone who may have information that could help identify the deceased or trace her relatives to come forward. Investigators are hoping to obtain DNA samples from potential family members to compare with those of the victim.
